Having worked as a rural generalist in many remote areas of Australia, I made the decision this year to have an impact on healthcare closer to home, right here in Cairns, but it wasn’t until the death of a family member, Emma, at the tender age of 24 from melanoma, that I became focused on tackling skin cancer medicine myself.
After I made the commitment, I was fortunate enough to be selected to work for a year with local Dermotologist, Dr Ilsphi Browne at the Cairns Hospital GP with special interest in skin cancer. This has proven to be excellent preparation for opening the Ellipse Skin Cancer Clinic.
I'm fortunate to be able to continue my partnership with Dr Marcia Mickelburgh, a leading Cairns Plastic Surgeon so that any difficult excisions can be conferenced and planned within a multidisciplinary setting.
Our high risk skin cancer team include our in-house Plastic Surgeon, GP with advanced training in dermatology and practice nurse as standard with occupational therapist, radiologist, oncologist and physiotherapist, as required.
